First-ever capital market-based real time investment competition in Bangladesh

The event, titled "NeXTor," marks a pioneering initiative in Bangladesh, introduced by the East West University Investment and Finance Club. Sponsored by City Brokerage Limited and powered by Education Hub, with support from 12 other partners, it represents the first-ever Inter-University Capital Market Based Real-Time Investment Competition in the nation. Kicking off on February 22, 2024, the competition has embarked on physical roadshows at seven universities and virtual engagements at 11 others. The enthusiastic response has been evident, with participation from 22 universities nationwide, totaling 244 teams and 732 undergraduate students.
The purpose of the event is to create the opportunity to understand the stock market and start investing in undergraduate students in Bangladesh. Through this event, students are showcasing their investment knowledge, strategic investment skills, and stock market trading experience by participating in the mentioned competition. In this regard, participants learn the fundamentals of the capital market, how to construct a portfolio, and trade in the capital market through five different workshops. Three competitive rounds are being held for the participants to reach the final stage. In the final round, seven teams were qualified and eligible to open a BO account with Tk 10,000 to do live trade to construct a portfolio. On May 05, 2024, each team will showcase their portfolio with logical arguments in front of the judging panel. Afterwards, the judging panel will decide the champion, firstrunner-up, and second runner-up based on participants' merit.
The closing and prize-giving ceremony for the NeXTor competition will be held on May 5, 2024, at 3:00 pm in East West University's Manzur Elahi Auditorium. Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, will grace the occasion as the chief guest. Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, former governor of Bangladesh Bank, will attend as the guest of honour. Professor Dr Shams Rahman, vice-chancellor of East West University, will preside over the event as the programme chair. The special guest will be Misbah Uddin Affan Yusuf, managing director & CEO of City Brokerage Limited. Additionally, Founding Moderator of East West University Investment and Finance Club, Leo VashkorDewri, alongside faculty members and students from various departments, will also attend. Winners will be awarded a total of Tk 200,000 in prizes, including BO accounts, awards, certifications, and internship opportunities.
