First ever clinker plant gets going this month
Monday, 13 August 2007
The first ever clinker plant in the country to produce raw material for cement will be formally inaugurated in Jessore this month, reports BSS.
The plant was earlier installed by a private entrepreneur at a cost of Tk 200 million (20 crore) to produce 200 tonnes of clinker per day, factory sources said in the city Sunday.
The locally produced clinker would help save the hard-earned foreign exchange as the country imports 600 million tonnes of this raw material by spending Tk 25 billion every year, they said.
The clinkers to be produced by this plant would be purchased by Niloy Cement Factory. A five-year agreement is expected to be signed between them tomorrow (Tuesday), they added.
Niloy Cement Factory Proprietor Abdul Matlub Ahmed said that the cement to be produced from the clinker would be exported to India to help reduce the existing trade gap between the two neighbouring countries.
Ahmed is also the president of India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
