First-ever ICT training centre for cops in 2 yrs

Bangladesh police is set to set up the first-ever training centre on information technology in a bid to enhance their professional excellence, reports BSS. Construction of the centre titled "Bangladesh Police Korea Centre for Information Technology" is expected to be completed by 2013 at a cost of Tk 240 million. "The centre will provide the policemen with training on information of communication technology to enhance their professional excellence to deal with the crimes involving modern technologies," Special Superintendent of CID and project director of the institute Mohammad Rezaul Haider told BSS. Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), which will provide full fund to set up the centre, gave their nod to the proposal prepared by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), he said. "We are now preparing Development Project Proforma (DPP) for setting up the institute," he said, adding that they will send the DPP to the government for its approval. Rezaul Haider said the centre would be set up at Police Mill Barrack at Lalbagh in the old city. Construction work of the centre is expected to start in November next, another CID official said.
