First human bird flu case detected

The first case of human infection of avian influenza or bird flu this year has been detected, confirms the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR). IEDCR Director Mahmudur Rahman said that the human infection was confirmed Monday after testing the samples of saliva and nasal discharge of a man with running temperature, who visited an influenza surveillance centre recently. The surveillance centre is jointly run by the IEDCR and International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases and Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B). Proper treatment of the patient has already been ensured, the IEDCR director said. - bdnews24.com.
