First meeting of DUEDAA executive committee held

The first meeting of the newly elected executive committee of DUEDAA (Dhaka University Economics Department Alumni Association) 2009-2010 was held recently. The meeting was presided over by newly elected president, former Adviser of the Caretaker Government, Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman. Four new vice presidents are Anwarul Azim, A.T.M. Alaingir, Dr. Atiur Rahman, Syed Mahmudul Haq and General Secretary is Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and Treasurer Banker Murshid Kuli Khan, The Committee also has two joint secretaries and 26 members.
Achievement so far of DUEDAA include establishment of a full fledgedcomputer lab for Dhaka University Economic Department, Scholarship program for talented and financially needy students of the department, and modernization of departmental seminar hall.
Beside ongoing program, the meeting discussed future plans, Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman emphasized three goals firstly, strengthen the alumni as a powerful network, Secondly, assistance to the department and thirdly, overall development of economics as a subject within Bangladesh.
In pursuit of these goals, the meeting decided to initiate divisional level workshop for collage teachers of economics. It was also decided to under take motivational program to attract youth to the study of economics as well as implement public lectures by noted contemporary economic thinkers. To make the association more dynamic it was also decided to undertake a membership drive among those alumni who are not yet members.
