First week of August sees 101 deaths in dengue

Infections cross 75,000 mark this year

August might be the deadliest month for the Dengue outbreak this year as the country has seen 101 deaths already within the first week of the month. During the period 23,237 cases have been reported across the country.
So far, the DGHS has recorded 75,069 dengue cases and 65,290 recoveries this year.
A dengue outbreak continues to pummel the country as the government reported a record number of 2,844 new hospitalizations on Wednesday.
Of the total, 1092 were from Dhaka meaning more cases from outside Dhaka.
In the same 12 new casualties were reported, including 7 in Dhaka in the mosquito borne fever.
With the new casualties, the death tolls crossed 352 in dengue fever, including 276 from Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
The DGHS at a media briefing on Wednesday warned and sought for mass awareness as new cases were rising outside Dhaka with a "stable" situation in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the total dengue cases rose to 75,069. Of the total cases, 38,814 were from Dhaka, added DGHS.
A total of 9,427 people were being treated across the country in hospitals. Of them, 4,421 were from Dhaka. Of the total admitted, 65,290 patients made recovery and returned home, and of them, 34,117 were from Dhaka.
