Fish, onion, veggie mark further spike

The prices of fish, onion, tomato and some other vegetables witnessed a notable hike further last week, augmenting woes of consumers.
Onion prices have showed a further hike of Tk 10-15 a kg in the last seven days, as it retailed at Tk 105-110 a kg on Friday.
Tomato witnessed an increase of Tk 40-60 a kg and retailed at Tk 200-220 a kg on the day.
The retail price of green chilli was Tk 300-320 a kg, marking another round of hike in a week.
Bottled gourd marked a hike of Tk 20-30 per piece as they retailed at Tk 70-90 a piece on the day.
Eddo, long-yard beans, bitter gourd and brinjal were traded at the previous highs of Tk 90-100 a kg. Pointed gourd, snake gourd and papaya prices remained static at Tk 60-70 a kg, according to kitchen market sources.
Traders said heavy rain across the country has been causing supply disruptions of onion, chilli, vegetables and other perishable items.
Meanwhile, fish prices showed a further hike of Tk 40-200 a kg, depending on species and sizes.
Cultured ruhi was sold at Tk 320-550 a kg from Tk 280-450 a week back.
Hilsa prices skyrocketed to Tk 1400-2400 a kg, marking a further hike of Tk 150-200 a kg.
Riverine shoul price jumped to Tk 750-1,150 a kg, based on size.
Black tiger shrimp and golda shrimp retailed in between Tk 750 and Tk 1,150 a kg, marking a further hike of Tk 100-150 a kg.
Egg prices witnessed a slight decline to Tk 155-160 a dozen from Tk 165-170 seven days ago.
Meanwhile, loose soybean and palm oil prices showed a slight hike by Tk 2.0 a litre in the market in a week, according to the sources.
