Fish production to hit 4.5m tonnes in 2020-\\\'21

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Sayedul Haque Tuesday said the country's fish production will go up to 4.52 million tonnes in the 2020-'21 fiscal year, reports UNB.
"The Fisheries Department has set a target of boosting fish production by 20 percent by 2020," he told Parliament replying to a scripted question from ruling Awami League MP M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11).
The amount of cultivated fish production will go up to 2.71 million tonnes in 2020-21 fiscal, he noted.
In line with the Vision 2021, the target has been set to increase production of milk, meat and egg to 9.46 million tonnes, 6.96 million tonnes and 17.82 billion pieces respectively, the minister said.
In the 2014-'15 fiscal, the production of milk, meat and egg were 6.97 million tonnes, 5.86 million tonnes and 10.99 billion pieces, he told the House.
In reply to a starred question from AL MP Mamunur Rashid Kiron (Noakhali-3), the Fisheries and Livestock Minister said the government has released some 4,000 tonnes fish fry in water bodies across the country in the last six fiscal years.
According to the statistics placed by the minister, some 940 tonnes fish fry were released in 2014-15 fiscal, while some 653 tonnes in 2013-14, some 797 tonnes in 2012-'13 and some 1209 tonnes in 2011-12 fiscal.
