Fisheries Dept re-excavates 15 ponds in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Jun 05 (BSS): With a view to increasing fish production, the fisheries department is re-excavating 15 silted ponds in four upazilas of the district.
Sources concerned said the work on the projects aimed at creating scopes of income generation for the poor through fish cultivation is nearing completion.
The department is implementing the work under two projects involving Tk 5.47 million and Tk 15.1 million respectively with funds from the government.
Under the schemes, two ponds are being re-excavated in Shaghata upazila and one in Palashbari upazila, two in Fulchhari upazila and 10 in Gobindaganj upazila.
Gaibandha District Fisheries Officer Abdud Dayan said 95 per cent work on the projects has already been completed.
He said on completion of the projects additional 100 tonnes of carp and indigenous fishes would be produced in the district.
