Fisherman killed by tiger in Sundarbans

BAGERHAT, Aug 17 (BSS): A fisherman was killed by a tiger in the Sundarbans in the district Tuesday.
The fisherman was identified as Shahidul Islam of Chileta Bunia village under Sharankhula Upazila in the district.
The mangled body of the ill-fated fisherman was recovered after a six-hour long rescue operation by the guards of Forest Department and hundreds of people of Khuria Khali village in the Sundarbans.
Shahidul was attacked and carried off by the tiger when he and other fishermen were fishing in Singrabunia canal at Morabhola area under Sharankhola range in the Sundarbans Tuesday afternoon.
The guards of the local watch camp along with local people launched a vigorous search operation with flashlights. They finally recovered the partially eaten body of Shahidul in the early hours of Wednesday. The guards said they had to fire more than 50 blank shots during the search operation. The tiger had disappeared deeper into jungle leaving behind its victim.
