Fisherman killed in tiger attack

KHULNA, May 8 (UNB) :A fishermen was killed and another injured in separate tiger attacks in Nolia area of Sundarbans in Dakope Upazila Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Faruk Gazi (37), son of Nurul Islam Gazi of Nolia village in the upazila. Forest officials said Faruk went to Shibsha river for catching fish at about 6:30pm. Suddenly, a tiger swooped on him and dragged him into the deep forest. Later, his body was recovered by the fellow fishermen at around 9pm. In another incident, Monindra Kumar (50), son of Swadesh Kumar of Shogna village in Dumuria Upazila, came under tiger attack at about 5:00pm while fishing in the same river. Later, other fishermen rescued him in critical condition and admitted him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. NCD pilot programme opens in Satkhira Our Correspondent from Khulna adds: This is for the first time in the country a model piloting programme of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) has been started nationally in Satkhira. Health Minister Dr. AFM Ruhul Haq inaugurated this NCD programme at Shakhipur Health Complex of Debhata Upazila of Satkhira district Friday. This programme will be continued in Debhata, Asasuni and Kaligang Upazilas of Satkhira district. Different kinds of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, asthma break out in the world including Bangladesh epidemically. 54% people die in the world of these diseases. The outbreak of these diseases has also been increased in Bangladesh, said the Health Minister Dr. AFM Ruhul Haq while he was addressing as the chief guest at the national level pilot project of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD). He also said though the treatment of these diseases has been started in other countries earlier, but the present government has taken a pilot programme as on trial basis to aware and ensure better treatment to the people of three coastal Upazilas of Satkhira district.
