Sunday, 8 May 2011

GAIBANDHA, May 7(BSS): A total of 25 poor fishermen of Palashbari Upazila in the district received rickshaw-vans from the Upazila fisheries office Thursday. Sources said the rickshaw vans worth TK 0.15 million were distributed to the beneficiaries under a project of Poverty Reduction and Livelihood Security for the People of Economically Depressed Areas. The project is being implemented by fisheries department in 135 Upazilas of 23 districts including Gaibandha from July 2010. Generally in the months of June, July and August fish catching remains totally stopped because of a government ban to hasten fish breeding in open water bodies causing the poor fishermen suffer a lot and pass their days with hardship.
