NAOGAON, Aug 23: Fishes worth about Tk 250 million from ponds and other water bodies under the five upazilas of the district have been washed away by the recent floodwater.
Sources said several river protection dams in these upazilas collapsed due to onrush of floodwaters, washing away fishes from 563 water bodies of Naogaon sadar, Raninagar, Manda, Atrai and Porsha upazilas.
Around 320 fish farmers of the five upazilas are now worried over their livelihood as they face huge losses.
District Fisheries Officer Firoz Ahmed said the recent flood washed away around 1,658 tonnes of fishes from 563 ponds of the district, incurring the farmers a big loss. Ahmed also said the farmers would be brought under rehabilitation programme when the situation improves.
