Ex-cadets Association has called a half-day fishing-vessel strike in protest against killing of naval engineer Alek Mia. The organisation of former students from Marine Fisheries Academy, announced a slew of agitation programmes, including strike at the end of its protest meeting at Chittagong Central Shahid Minar on Thursday afternoon. At the meeting, speakers claimed workers of fishing vessels had no security though government had been earning huge revenue from this sector. They claimed captain of Eden Fisheries’ trawler Mannan and his associate Jashim had launched a premeditated attack on the engineer of ‘Eden-2’ fishing vessel Alek Mia. His body was found 27 hours later after it had been dumped into the river. A case was filed with Sadarghat Police Station in Chittagong in this connection. The ex-cadets also decided to hoist black flags on all fishing vessels until the arrest of the culprits, according to bdnews24.com.
