Five die in Habiganj truck-car collision

At least five people were killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district on Monday. Two others were injured in the head-on collision between a truck and a car. Sherpur Highway Police OC Nurnabi Sarkar and an official of Dhaka-Sylhet Highway Police outpost in Habiganj said all the victims were occupant of the car, including the driver. Police say the passengers of the car included a soldier of the Bangladesh Army. The dead include a child, a woman and three males, according to OC Sarkar. Two of them have been identified as Shah Alam, 32, the driver of the car, and 70-year-old Hamid Miah from Sylhet’s Jaintapur. Local people said the Sylhet-bound private car collided with a truck coming from opposite direction in Sadarghat Notunbazar area under Nabiganj upazila around 5:30am, leaving five of the passengers dead on the spot and a woman and a child critically injured. Being informed, police rescued to the spot and rescued the injured. They were whisked off to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, according to agencies.
