Five die in Sirajganj bus plunge

Five people, including two children, have been killed and 25 others injured in a road accident on the western side of Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge link road in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj district on Friday. Four of the five deceased were identified as Shahana, 12, daughter of Zahidul Islam of Sonaidanga village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila; Farida, 22, wife of Rafiqul Islam of the same village; Selina, 28, wife of Erfan Ali of Birahilpur village in Gobindaganj upazila, Nirob, a minor boy of Jewel Ahmed of Gariapara village of the same upazila. Helal Uddin, officer in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police Station, said a Gaibandha-bound bus carrying home-goers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr tumbled into a ditch breaking the railing of bridge No 4 of the Bangabandhu Bridge link road around 5:15pm, leaving three of the passengers dead on the spot and 27 others injured. The injured were rescued and whisked off to Sirajganj General Hospital where two more succumbed to their injuries, according to UNB.
