Five injured, 1 by bullet, as rival groups clash

Five people have been injured, one of them bullet-hit, in a clash over establishing supremacy in Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali district. The bullet-injured was identified as Abdur Razzak.
Police and locals said there had been loggerheads between the followers of Kalam and the followers of Salam over establishing supremacy at local Chhohissa Chowrasta Bazar in Taterkathi village. As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of two rival the groups locked in an altercation. Later, both the groups, equipped with firearms and sharp weapons, attacked each others. At one point, they exchanged fire, leaving five people injured,
including Razzak bullet-hit. Razzak was admitted to a local hospital and then shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police was deployed in the area on Friday to prevent more clashes between the two groups, according to a news agency.
