Five killed in road mishaps

MYMENSINGH, Dec 11 (UNB): A middle aged man and his niece were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident at Maherabari on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka Upazila Friday. The deceased were identified as Ranjit Sikder (40), and his brother's daughter Kanka Sikdar (10), of village Boalia in Kaliakoir Upazila of Gazipur district.
Police and locals said a Mymensingh bound microbus from the Kaliakoir carrying passengers rammed into a road side tree when its driver lost control over the steering leaving passengers Ranjit and Kanka died on the spot and 10 others injured at noon.
Another report from Munshiganj adds: Three people were killed as a bus hit them on Dhaka-Maowa highway at Dogachhi Bazar in Srinagar Upazila Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Hridoy (50) of North Medini Mondol village, Jashim (30), rickshaw-puller and Alhajj Fazlur Rahman (55) of Kazir Pagla village in Louhajang Upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a capital bound bus ploughed through the bazar as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving three people killed on the spot. Some shops were also twisted in the accident.
