Five more children died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours until 8:0 am on Friday.
With the latest daily count, the total fatalities due to measles and measles-like symptoms rose to 729 since mid-March this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the total deaths, 93 were confirmed as measles cases, said the DGHS in its daily bulletin.
Meanwhile, as many as 968 suspected and 139 confirmed measles infections were recorded in the past hours.
The total suspected measles infections reached 103,961 and confirmed infections climbed to 12,425 since March 15 last, it mentioned.
In response to a measles outbreak rapidly spreading across the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has already launched an emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign, targeting children aged 6 months to 5 years since April 5.
The government has already vaccinated over 18.47 million children since April, which will continue.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease, which affects individuals of all ages and remains one of the leading causes of death among young children globally.
Measles is usually a mild or moderately severe disease. However, measles can lead to complications such as pneumonia, diarrhea, secondary ear infection, inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), blindness, and death.
