The government has decided to suspend five officials of Jessore Education Board for irregularities in answer scripts of 2011 HSC examinations, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said on Monday, reports UNB.
He said show cause notices will be served on Secretary of Jessore Education Board Prof Qamrul Huda and Controller of Examinations Mohammad Selim to explain as to why action would not be taken against them for their negligence in performing duties.
Briefing reporters at the Education Ministry, Nahid said a four-member inquiry committee was constituted after irregularities were detected during the scrutiny of answer scripts.
He said the inquiry committee found irregularities after re-examination of 796 answer scripts. The inquiry committee also found irregularities including increasing marks unethically in different answer scripts during the re-examination.
Nahid said the inquiry committee made 12 recommendations. On the basis of the recommendations, the decision has been taken to suspend Deputy Controller of Examinations of Jessore Education Board Azmal Gani, Section Officer Fazlur Rahman, system analyst Jahangir Kabir, assistant programmer Mozammel Huq Chowdhury and data entry operator Abdur Razzak.
Departmental action will also be taken against them, he said.
Replying to a question, the Education Minister said such irregularities in the examinations are nothing new and had been happening regularly.
But it is the present government which first detected the irregularities and is taking action against the persons involved in such unethical activities, he said.
About the High Court order on Monday banning private coaching, Nahid said they welcome the court order and would take appropriate action after perusing the text of the order. "We also want to stop private coaching in the country," he added.
