Five patients in 'critical condition' at burn institute

Saturday, 26 July 2025

Five students injured in the Milestone School and College crash in Dhaka's Diabari are currently in "critical condition" at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, reports bdnews24.com.
At a Friday afternoon press conference, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, the institute's director, gave an update confirming 40 patients are still in care.
He said: "At this moment, we have five patients in critical condition, and 10 categorised as severe cases. Another 25 fall under the intermediate group. Among them, 10 are now in post-operative care, while 15 have been shifted to cabins."
Nasir added that four to five patients may be discharged on Saturday, with expectations that more could go home gradually in the coming days.
The director said two patients on ventilators had regained consciousness and were breathing without support, though two children died earlier in the day. Highlighting the rapidly changing condition of the patients, he said: "These are the updates for [Friday]. There is no new information beyond this."
The total death toll from the Milestone School tragedy has now reached 33.
At the start of the briefing, Nasir confirmed both children's deaths and said he had personally overseen the handover of the bodies.
