Five sentenced to life term imprisonment in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, May 31 (UNB): A court here Thursday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment in a murder case.
The convicts are Hedayetul Islam (26), Monir (30), Supon (23), Hossain (27), and Dulal. They were also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer two years RI more.
According to the prosecution, a gang of terrorists stormed into the house of local businessman Abdul Hannan alias Iran at Doulatpur village in Chatkhil Upazila on the night of February 2, 2002.
They in a bid to kill Iran sprayed bullets that accidentally killed his mother Sufia Begum (50) on the spot and injured his brother Jhantu (26), and nephew Jabed (20). Iran luckily escaped unhurt.
A case was filed against 13 terrorists of the area.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Iktiarul Islam pronounced the judgment acquitting eight others.
