Five top leaders of BNP denied bail

A Dhaka court Wednesday rejected the bail petitions of top five BNP leaders, including Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, in three cases, reports UNB.
The two others are BNP chairperson's adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain and her Special Assistant Shimul Biswas.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Mohammad Jahurul Haque passed the orders.
Moudud, MK Anwar, Barrister Rafiqul Islam and Shimul Biswas were shown arrested in two cases filed with Motijheel Police Station for vandalism, torching of vehicles and attacking cops on May 6.
On the night of November 8 last year, plainclothes police arrested Barrister Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar and Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah from the city's Karwanbazar area as they came out of Sonargaon Hotel.
The following day, Shimul Biswas was also arrested in front of BNP chairperson's Gulshan residence.
Meanwhile, BNP leader Khandker Mahbub was shown arrested in a case filed with Ramna Police Station under the Explosives Substance Act filed on January 5.
On January 4, a day before the 10th general election, miscreants hurled 10-12 crude bombs targeting the office of Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Ramna division) Maruf Hossain and the next day police filed the case under the Explosive Substances Act.
On January 7, plainclothes police arrested Khandker Mahbub as soon as he came out of the National Press Club after attending a discussion meeting on the January 5 parliamentary polls.
Another report adds from Gazipur: BNP joint secretary general and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) general secretary Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and ex-BNP MP Sakhawat Hossain Bakul were released from Kashimpur jail here Wednesday morning.
