FENI, June 12 (UNB): A minor boy died allegedly due to 'wrong treatment' in Feni's Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Osman Goni, son of Saiful Islam, a resident of Farhad Nagar Union of the Upazila.
Saiful Islam, father of the Osman, said that he admitted his son to Al Madina Hospital at 4 pm on Saturday for hernia operation. It was said that the operation will be done in the evening. But at 4:30pm the doctor came and pushed the injection and took his son to the operation theatre. "Shortly after this, my son died", he added.
Agitated relatives confined the accused doctor named Adnan Ahmed and the doctor in charge of anesthesia, Saiful Islam, in the operation theater room with the body.
Later, police of Feni Model Police Station visited the spot and brought the situation under control.
At night, the body was handed over to the family.
On Sunday morning, mobile court, led by District Administration Executive Magistrate Suval Chakma, conducted a drive and suspended all activities in accordance with the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance, 1982 for lack of licence and registration and violation of law until further instructions, said Dr Shihab Uddin, Civil Surgeon of Feni.
Dr Ashraful Islam, chairman of the hospital, said, the victim was my relative. He did not regain consciousness after the operation. "An investigation will be conducted to see if anything went wrong in his surgery", he added.
Dr Saiful Islam said that the patient's operation was completed after giving anesthesia. Later, we were worried when he did not regain his consciousness. He might have died of a heart attack.
Dr Adnan Ahmed, surgeon of the theatre, said he completed his operation after giving anesthesia as per the rules. The patient's consciousness depends on the anesthesia. If the matter is investigated properly, the exact reason will be revealed, he added.
Legal action will be taken if the victim's family files any complaint, said Mahfuzur Rahman, OC (investigation) of Feni Model Police Station.
