Fixed WiMAX broadband internet service launched

Country`s leading telecom operator Grameenphone along with two Internet Service Providers (ISP) -- Agni Systems Ltd. and ADN Telecom Ltd.- jointly launched fixed WiMAX broadband internet service in the city on Wednesday.
The companies will provide the service under the brand name of "Go Broadband" that will run by the individual management, said an official of the Grameenphone.
As a result of the launching, the number of WiMAX service providers will stand at four followed by Banglalion, Qubee, and Ollo. Currently, around 0.3 million people are using WiMAX service according to recent data of telecom regulator.
Initially, the service of the new company will be available at Dhaka and Chittagong.
The officials of the company said customers will enjoy minimum 1Mbps internet speed with best quality service because of having partnership with the largest telecom operator Grameenphone (GP).
Managing Director & Chairman at ADN Telecom Ltd Asif Mahmood said in two cities there will support of more than 200 base transceivers (networking infrastructures), while another 100 BTSs will be installed in a short time
The ISP's will use Grameenphone's network to provide service to the customers, while GP's marketing and distribution channel will be used to market the product. GP will also provide customer service.
Agni Systems and ADN Telecom have fixed spectrum on a 3500 Megahertz spectrum band, with 14 MHz each.
GP`s Chief Technology Officer Tanveer Mohammad and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Mahmud Hossain, and Managing Director of Agni Systems Ltd Mohammad Abdus Salam addressed the launching programme of the WiMAX service.
In a press statement, the GP said it believes that Internet can play a crucial role in the development of Bangladesh.
The Company has been providing 2G internet service around the country and recently covered all 64 district city of the country with 3G network. Now WiMAX is adding another feather to its internet portfolio.
