Tuesday, 6 May 2014

After a scorching April that parched Bangladesh, the north-eastern region is likely to be hit by flash floods at the end of this May, the Met Office has forecast. In its month-long forecast, the Met Office said a depression might form over the Bay of Bengal this month and it can turn into a cyclone. A Nor’wester, lasting three to four days, might lash Bangladesh’s north, north-eastern, and central parts. Nor’wester is a weather pattern that develops over the Bay of Bengal during the hot months of the year. The Met Office forecast, released yesterday, said Dhaka city recorded its highest temperature in five decades last month when the mercury jumped to 40.2 degrees Celsius. Other parts of Bangladesh were blazed by regular hot spells. It said two or three mild to moderate heat waves (36-40 degrees) may sweep Bangladesh in the remaining parts of May. However, one or two severe heat waves (over 40 degrees) may hit the north and north-eastern parts, according to bdnews24.com.
