Flippant remarks by energy adviser

Saturday, 3 May 2014

Tawfiq-e-Elahi, the energy adviser of the Prime Minster, has made a flippant remark that the common people should get some taste of load-shedding so that they realise that how much our country has progressed in power sector during the tenure of the Grand Alliance. Despite high tariff of quick rental power plants, we still experience load-shedding across the country. I have read that there is heavy load-shedding in villages also. The farmers are unable to irrigate their farmlands due to frequent power outage.
The remark of the energy adviser indicates that our country produces additional power. Such remark is a sheer mockery with the common people living a miserable life due to hot summer coupled with frequent power failure. It seems that the adviser might have thought that load shedding had become a matter of the past but in really we are living with it every day. We want transparency and accountability in the power sector as there are allegations of huge corruption in this sector.
