Flood maroons 500 families in Moulvibazar

Heavy downpour and onrush of water from hills have inundated different areas of Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar district, leaving 500 families marooned. Boro paddy on 50 hectares and Aus on five hectares of land also got damaged due to the inundation. Locals said heavy downpour for the last couple of days and water rolling down the hills caused breach on different points of Dholai River Protection Embankment. Water gushing through the breached portions of the embankment submerged Kamalganj Municipal area and four unions under the upazila, marooning 500 families. It also washed away cultivated fishes worth Tk 5 million in different ponds, according to UNB.
