Flood situation deteriorates in B\\\'putra basin

The flood situation marked a little deterioration in the basin of the Brahmaputra River following rise in water levels of the major rivers in northern and north-western region during the past 24 hours till 6am today, official sources said. The Water Development Board (WDB) sources said Brahmaputra, Teesta, Jamuna and Ghaghot rivers were flowing above danger marks (DM) at Fulchhari, Gaibandha, Dalia, Bahadurabad, Sariakandi, Sirajganj and Aricha points on Monday evening. Meanwhile, Ripon Karmaker, assistant engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), has said flood situation in different parts of the country will remain unchanged as major rivers are in rising trend due to heavy downpours in Indian state of Meghalaya. ‘All the major river system except the Ganges are in rising trend as Indian state Meghalaya has been witnessing heavy rainfall for past few days,’ the assistant engineer of FFWC said. Overall flood situation in northern and north-eastern regions will remain unchanged till next two or three days, he added, according to BSS.
