Flood situation improves further

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna basin has continued receding and is likely to fall further while the Ganges-Padma basin may rise at a slower rate within a day or two, a Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said in its latest report Friday, reports BSS.
The Padma at Goalundo and Bhagyakul receded slightly and may also follow the trend which may help improve the flood situation in the districts of Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur,Gopalganj,Chandpur and in the upazilas of Dohar and Nawabganj in Dhaka district.
The small rivers surrounding Dhaka and Narayanganj receded and are expected to fall further within days, leading to improvement of the flood situation in Dhaka city and in its eastern suburbs, the FFWC report added.
The Brahmaputra-Jamuna basin is likely to fall by 13cm to flow 13cm below the danger level in the flood-hit Sirajganj. It may slide by 5cm at Aricha, flowing 6cm below the danger level.
The river has also maintained its falling trend at its entry point at Noonkhawa, Chilmari and Bahadurabad, the FFWC said.
The Meghna at Bhairab Bazar is likely to fall by 8cm to flow 25 cm below the danger mark.
The north eastern rivers Surma, Kushiyara and Manu in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Maulvibazar are also falling. Only the Khowai at Habiganj rose by 4 cm. The Gumti at Comilla fell by 3cm at Comilla.
