Flood situation in CHT worsens

The overall flood situation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and some other districts has worsened with incessant rain and onrush from hills inundating many areas.
In Bardarban, a minor boy was killed and another injured in a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall for the last three days at New Gulshan in Bandarban municipality area on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Sajjad Hossain, 2, son of Mohammad Dilu of the area.
In Sylhet, daylong torrential rain on Wednesday submerged many parts of the Sylhet city, throwing normal public life into disarray. Many areas of the city, including Shibganj, Sonarpara, Upashahar, Pathapara and Terorton went under water due to the incessant rainfall.
In Sunamganj, low-lying areas of the district have gone under water following the torrential rain and onrush from the hills. Some 195mm rainfall was recorded in the district in 24 hours and 350mm in Jadukata point of Tahirpur border.
In Khagrachari, nearly 100 houses of Muslimpara, Gonjapara and Santinagar areas have been inundated by flood water due to surging water in different rivers. The water level of the Chengi and Maini rivers has increased due to heavy rainfall and onrush from upstream, according to a news agency.
