Flood situation static

The flood situation in several districts remained unchanged on Thursday, leaving a large number of people still marooned. The water level of the Jamuna River marked a rise by 15cm from Tuesday to Thursday, causing fresh inundation of areas along the river. In Sunamganj, several thousand people in Sadar, Tahirpur, Bishwambharpur, Chhatak, Doarabazar and Dirai upazilas remained marooned duo to the flood. In Gaibandha, the low-lying areas under 24 unions have been inundated so far. The main portion of the Brahmaputra flood protection embankment has turned rickety at six points due to heavy rainfall and strong current that can eventually lead to the flooding of more areas, according to officials of the Bangladesh Water Development Board, a news agency said.
