Flourishment of small, cottage industries for spurring uplift underscored

RANGPUR, Sept 4 (BSS): Flourishing of local small and cottage industries and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can create a large number of jobs to accelerate national development and enhance economic growth.
This view was expressed in the inaugural ceremony of a month-long fair titled 'Small and Cottage Industry Fair-2015' arranged at the Government Auditorium in the sub-Himalayan Panchagarh district town this afternoon.
Panchagarh Press Club has organised the fair to flourish small and cottage industries, enhance production of quality goods by local entrepreneurs and introduce local products for expanding business, trade and commerce through competitions.
The private sector small-scale entrepreneurs, cottage industries and organisations from different areas of the country have set up 30 stalls displaying local products in the fair.
General Secretary of Panchagarh district Awami League and Sadar upazila Chairman Anwar Hossain Samrat inaugurated the fair by cutting a ribbon at a ceremony arranged on the fair premises as the chief guest.
With Panchagarh Press Club President A Rahman Mukul in the chair, Assistant Superintendent of Police (A-Circle) Kafil Uddin and Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Thana Mominul Islam attended the ceremony as special guests.
Local public representatives, small-scale male and female entrepreneurs, leaders of different trade bodies and business organisations, businesspersons, bankers, civil society members and elite were present.
The speakers stressed the need for flourishing local small, medium and cottage industries and promoting local entrepreneurs to create job opportunities for the unemployed youths to enhance local and national economy.
They put importance on ensuring production of quality products maintaining national and international standards to enhance business at the district, regional and national levels as well as increase exports abroad to face the challenge of globalisation.
