Flower business gaining popularity in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 15 : Flower business is gaining popularity in Rangpur district and the business is going on in full swing here.
According to sources over ten thousand people of the district earn their livelihood from flower business by producing, processing and selling this item.
About Tk 10 million is earned every year from this business. Encouraged by the huge profit some more farmers started flower cultivation on a commercial basis.
More than fifty flower farms have been set up in the district and the quality of flowers produced in those gardens is better than that of other parts of the country, sources said.
There are various kinds of flowers produced in the flower farms such as rose, tuberose, marigold, gladiola, jasmine, water lily etc.
The local growers said proper training and other financial and technical assistance can pave the way for large-scale commercial production of flowers across the northern region.
They claimed they have to face harassment and sometimes have to offer bribe to the officials for taking loans from banks.
