BOGURA, Nov 03: Commercial cultivation of flower has helped grassroots farmers in the district attain financial solvency.
A good number of growers across the district have been growing varieties of flowers around the year and making handsome profit.
Shajahanpur, Sadar, Dupchanchia, Shibganj and Sherpur upazilas are well-known for growing varieties of flower, sources said.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official said farmers in the area produce over 10 varieties of flowers every season.
The department provides all necessary support to the peasants in this connection, the officials said.
"Flower cultivation has brought a change in my life," said farmer Abdul Wadud of Shibganj upazila.
"My average earning in a season is around Tk 0.4 million." he added.
Sources said some 400 day-labours work in flower field in the five upazilas of the district.
Deputy Director of DAE Pratul Chandra Sarker said, "We support the flower farmers so that they can get a good production. The farmers of the district are happy over fair prices."
