Flu afflicted poultry birds destroyed

KHULNA, Feb 26: A total of 1,309 ful affected poultry birds and 371 eggs have been destroyed at Anwar Poultry Firm at Nurnagor, Boyra of the city last week. The livestock department has declared it affected area and taken precautionary measures at all poultry firms surrounding one kilometre centering the affected firm. District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Nizam Uddin said that on February-19, a poultry bird died at Anwar Poultry Firm belonging Hedayet Hossain at Nurnagor area of the city and it was a case of suspected bird flu. It was confirned on the basis of a report of SDIL (Regional Deceases Investigation Laboratory) of Barisal. On the basis of SDIL report a decision was taken to destroy the affected bird and form a team in a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Jamsher Ahmed Khondoker in the chair. Later, 1,309 poultry birds and 371 eggs have been dumped. Deputy Director of Livestock Department Dr. Mrinal Kanti Mitro, District Livestock Officer Dr. Nizam Uddin, Executive Magistrate Dilruba Sharmin, Representative of Civil Surgeon Dr. Motiar Rahman, Divisional Co-coordinator of Poultry Firm Owners Association SM Shohrab Hossain were present during the programme.
