Flying start for Bangladesh

Wednesday, 12 November 2014

Bangladesh were off to a flier in the third Test against Zimbabwe with two centuries from openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes. The pair put up Bangladesh’s best opening stand as the Tigers surged to 213 without losing any wicket at Tea on the first day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. The previous record of 185 was by the same pair against England in 2010. Tamim (104) and Kayes (103) also recorded the first instance of both openers scoring tons for the country in the same match. Zimbabwe suffered a drop catch when Kayes, who is back in the side replacing Shamsur Rahman, was let off at square leg on 19 off Natsai M’shangwe. Tamim reached his sixth Test century off 150 balls lacing his innings with 14 boundaries and a six, while the other left-handed opener, Kayes, reached his second off 191. Bangladesh opted to bat with two changes in the team. Pacer Shafiul Islam replaced Shahadat Hossain. Bangladesh have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series, according to a news agency.
