FM differs with media report on extradition of Noor Chowdhury

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday's newspaper reports on deportation of Noor Chowdhury, the convicted killer of Bangabandhu, did not accurately reflect the discussions held between the Foreign Minister and the Canadian High Commissioner (HC) on the issue, reports UNB. The newspaper reports referred to the comments made by new HC of Canada to Bangladesh Ms Heather Cruden after she called on Foreign Minister Dipu Moni Sunday in the Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry referred to the press release it circulated Monrday which it believes contained the actual information in this regard. A clarification issued by the Foreign Ministry said the Bangladesh government has been in constant and deep engagement with Canada on the issue of deportation of Noor Chowdhury from Canada. It said cognizant of the legal considerations involved on Canada's part regarding any individual convicted with death sentence, Bangladesh believes that this is an ongoing process which is in progress.
