FM hails role of diplomats in Liberation War

Saturday, 19 April 2014

Foreign Minister AHMahmood Ali has recalled with deep appreciation the contribution of the diplomats who had defected from Pakistan administration and expressed allegiance towards a sovereign Bangladesh during the country’s independence struggle 43 years ago. He was addressing as chief guest a discussion meeting yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the city to commemorate the “First hoisting of Bangladesh National Flag” outside the Bangladesh territory at Kolkata mission on April 18, 1971. The minister said the diplomats had taken incalculable risk not only on their own life and career but also on the lives of their next of kin living in the war-torn Bangladesh at that time. He added that it was time to take initiatives to preserve the authentic history of the glorious war of liberation fought on the diplomatic front in 1971, according to BSS.
