FM mourns deaths in Mecca

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali expressed deep shock over the death of scores of people, mostly Hajj pilgrims, and injuries to over 234 others following the collapse of a huge crane at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. In a message to Saudi Foreign Minister Adel A. Al-Jubeir on Saturday, Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali said “We, the people and the government of Bangladesh, express our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to Your Excellency, and through you to the victims as well as their family members who lost their near and dear ones.” Mahmood Ali also prayed that Almighty Allah grants the fortitude and patience for the victims and their family members to bear these invaluable losses and sufferings. “It’s a matter of satisfaction that the Saudi authorities concerned have undertaken efficient rescue and recovery efforts immediately after the catastrophic accident. The people and government of Bangladesh join me in expressing their readiness to extend any assistance at this time of need,” he added, according to a news agency.
