Focus on related issues to tackle malnutrition

FE Report | Thursday, 19 March 2015

Speakers at a programme on Wednesday said the country needs to focus on some related issues, like - food security, women's education and empowerment, hygiene practice and sanitation, and expansion of social safety-net, along with nutritional activities to address the problem of malnutrition.
They also said nourishment-related education is important for ensuring nutrition, as it is related not with health only but also with lifestyle, food habit and awareness.
These observations came at the launching ceremony of nutrition-related Mobile Voice Call (MVC) by Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital.
National Nutrition Services (NNS) under Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN) organised the event to increase awareness among all sections of people by using IT.
Health secretary Syed Monjurul Islam was present as the chief guest, while additional secretary Roksana Kader chaired the programme.
Under the present initiative of MVC, a 29-second message on nutrition, including early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding, food supplementation, food fortification, food diversification and folic acid tablets, will reach to 40 million mobile phone subscribers from a Teletalk number - 01513-456789.
