Fog halts ferries for 6 hrs
Tuesday, 21 January 2014
Ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route remained suspended for six hours till Tuesday morning due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. Mohiuddin Russel, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Ferry Ghat (terminal), said they kept suspended ferry service and plying of the water vessels from 2:00 today am due to blurred visibility for thick fog in Padma River. Eleven ferries remained stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia terminals due to the disruption. Over 100 goods-laden vehicles and passenger buses had to remain in wait at both the ghats for the halt to ferry service. Ferry service was restored at 8:00 am, according to UNB.
