Fog halts ferries in Paturia-Daulatdia river route

Friday, 24 January 2014

Ferry movement in the Paturia-Daulatdia river route came to a halt on Friday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. Bidyut Kumar Saha, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Paturia ferry ghat (terminal), said they kept suspended ferry service and plying of the water vessels from about 6:00 am due to blurred visibility for dense fog. Two ferries – Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) and Barkat –remained stranded in the middle of Padma River for the suspension. Eight ferries remained stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia terminals due to the disruption. Around 800 goods-laden vehicles, private cars and passenger buses had to remain in wait at both the ghats for the halt to ferry operation in the important waterways, according to UNB.
