Fog strands shipping minister

Monday, 29 December 2014

A ferry with several buses, cars and scores of passengers, including the Shipping Minister, remained stranded in the middle of Padma River in Shimulia-Kawrakandi route for over 12 hours from 10:30pm on Sunday due to blurred visibility caused by thick fog. BIWTA sources and some of the stranded passengers said Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan was stuck in mid-river for 12-and-half-hour as BIWTC ferry 'Kakoli', carrying him, halted due to dense fog in Shimulia-Kawrakandi waterways from Sunday night to Monday morning. An official of Kawarakandi Ghat (terminal)'s BIWTC office said the car carrying Shajahan Khan got on ‘Kakoli’ from Kawrakandi Ghat around 10:30pm on Sunday. But it was stuck in the mid river due to the thick fog. However, the ferry started for Manikganj's Shimulia Ghat on the other side of Padma River around 11:00am as fog cleared, according to a news agency.
