Food factories fined Tk0.1m

A mobile court has fined two food factories Tk0.1 million (Tk100,000) for manufacturing substandard foods in Rajshahi city on Tuesday. Being tipped off, regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institutions (BSTI) conducted separate raids in Aroma Food Industries and Messrs Popular Food Industries in BSCIC Industrial Estate. During the raid the team found the factories manufacturing, possessing and selling substandard and unhygienic food items like cake, biscuit and vermicelli and running their business without BSTI license. The mobile court conducted by Executive Magistrate Shukla Sarker fined the factories Tk 50,000 each. The summery court also destroyed 100 litres of burnt edible oil of the factories instantly, said Mourtoza Hossain Shah, Director of BSTI, according to a news agency.
