Gobindaganj Upazila food officer and 12 others have been arrested for allegedly smuggling rice for open market sale. Gobindaganj police sub-inspector Babul Islam told the news agency that a RAB-5 team of Gaibandha arrested Upazila Food Officer Mohammad Abdus Samad, dealer Suja Mia and 11 others Monday. They were smuggling two trucks of OMS rice from the upazila central storage depot and another at nearby Jhilpara, owned by Suja, when the elite force conducted the drive, he said. A total of 550 sacks of rice were loaded in the two trucks. - bdnews24.com
