Food security 'not possible without scientific methods'

Achieving food security is not possible without adaptation of scientific and technological methods in producing agricultural products, said Agricultural Minister Motia Chowdhury at a conference.
She, said "There is no alternative to increasing our food production to feed the large population of the country as our land is limited and vulnerable to frequent natural calamities".
The minister was addressing the 6th International Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnological Conference at Dhaka University (DU) Senate Bhaban as chief guest.
Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology (BAPTC&B) organised the three-day long conference in cooperation with Dhaka University, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), Ministry of Science and ICT and National Institute of Biotechnology.
Motia underscored the need for coping with science and technology in food production to meet the food demand of the country.
In the programme, eminent Botanist of the country Professor Dr Ahmed Shamsul Islam was awarded the BAPTC&B Gold Medal for his outstanding contribution in the field.
