Food security and social protection issues are to dominate Bangladesh-United Kingdom (UK) climate conference in London as the country's Climate Change Action Plan prioritised the issue to be addressed in facing the phenomenon, reports BSS.brThe (climatic) changes will require farmers to modify their current cropping systems or change to alternative systems. brResearch is needed to develop and field test alternative systems, adapted to likely future conditions, so that choices are available for farmers as climate conditions change, read the Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan.brThe just formulated plan likely to be the basis of Bangladesh statement in the UK sponsored conference in London on September 10, stressed that the associated seed supply and extension mechanisms also have to be developed.brAsked if the plan called for import of seeds or introduction of GM crops, authors of the document replied in the negative saying rather that the plan stressed testing of indigenous varieties which could withstand the adverse impact of the climate change on agriculture production.
