Football and its lost glory

Friday, 21 November 2014

I really don't comprehend how football, once the most popular sport,  has lost its appeal to the sport lovers of the country. Football was the most popular sport and its players used to have a greater following and adulation than movie stars. Dhaka stadium would become full to the brim when two most popular sides Abahani and Mohamedan faced each other. The newspapers used to publish special editions and football news was carried in bold headlines on the front pages. These days, during the World Cup we see a lot of enthusiasm among common people and the football frenzy takes over.
Due to lack of interest of the common people, the sponsors are also not interested to invest in football.  We sport loving people have lost our football zeal due to poor quality and standard of our football. Once Bangladesh was a respected football force in South East Asia but now we are languishing at the bottom of the table. Will Bangladesh football ever get back its lost glory?
