For a longer Eid-ul-Fitr holiday

Wednesday, 8 October 2008

A longer vacation during one festival would be good as in some other countries.
We get only three-day vacations for the two Eids. But many people extend it for more than a week on each festival. The holiday mood continues for a couple of days more. But those who join offices in time also feel the need to extend the vacations for many reasons.
Can we also get a long vacation during at least one Eid? A longer vacation can be declared for Eid-ul-Fitr. The three-day holiday can continue for Eid-ul-Azha and the government can minimize other government holidays to let the nation get a longer Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. Many countries do not allow national holidays for religious festivals other than those of the members of the dominant religion. Muslims, Hindus or Buddhists do not enjoy religious holidays in the USA, UK or even in Asian countries like Singapore. These people have to make special arrangements to be able to celebrate their festivals. That can be done in our country also to let the people of all religions enjoy a longer holiday during Eid-ul-Fitre.
